Cultural exchange beyond nationality,
from Japan.
Tagen Bunka Kaikan is in Roppongi, Tokyo — a neighbourhood where people of many nationalities live and art is part of daily life. Based in Japan, we promote cultural exchange beyond nationality and offer a place for exhibitions, photo shoots, talks, events and many other forms of expression.
Through Asian culture we aim for new kinds of exchange. As a multipurpose venue for art, traditional crafts, film and workshops, we create chances to meet the inspiration of leading figures in every field.
Travelling, we touch the roots of the legends and traditions each place keeps, and think about how people have moved between lands since ancient times.
“A cultural history of Japan–China exchange”, the editorial policy of our magazine CKRM (中國紀行), underlies everything Tagen does. Respecting local traditions, we bring what we have walked and checked for ourselves to our pages, our venue and our journeys.

Art at its core resonates beyond any single form. For many years Wang Xiaoming has made music the central motif of her abstract paintings. Rather than depicting “sound” with line or figurative form, she lets the feelings of performer and listener dissolve into layered colour, building a borderless bridge between sight and hearing through the person who experiences both.
